The American Maritime Partnership issued the following statement on May 22, 2026, for National Maritime Day, calling on President Donald Trump to trust his instincts and end the 150-day waiver of the Jones Act. Read the full statement below:
“National Maritime Day should be a celebration of the American mariners, shipbuilders, and maritime workers who serve this country every day,” said Jennifer Carpenter, President of the American Maritime Partnership. “Instead, 66 days into this broad Jones Act waiver, American workers are watching foreign operators displace them while the waiver fails to meaningfully lower gas prices or provide substantial additional supply. That is not America First. President Trump’s instincts on strengthening American shipbuilding and putting more ships in the water are right. We urge him to end this waiver and put American maritime strength first.”
