Truth:
The WSJ op-ed alleges that the Jones Act violates the U.S. Constitution’s Port Preference Clause, which states “[n]o Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another…”. The Jones Act applies to all ports and points in the United States. The law fundamentally does not prefer any one port over another. The poorly written and researched piece also claims that the Jones Act “prohibits unloading goods at multiple U.S. ports”, which is incorrect.
Repealing the Jones Act would hurt America and trade the national security benefits of the law for foreign dependence.
