Truth:
Ken Schoolland, a writer at the Grassroots Institute of Hawaii, falsely claimed that the Jones Act prevented “shipping and assistance from all of the islands around the Caribbean and all around Europe” from aiding Puerto Rico in its recovery from Hurricane Maria in 2017.
The TRUTH is that 74% of all vessels that call on Puerto Rico are foreign. The Jones Act did not and could not impede other countries from sending aid and ships to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
